Sirens

2012

Info

Title: Sirens
Year: 2012
Size: 21 x 30 cm
Technique: Biro, Pencil and Coloured Pencil

Every now and then I like to pick a person at random to give me 10 words of inspiration in which I can use to create an image from their own tongue. In this situation the words given were Parrot, Treasure, Pirate, Rizla, Sirens, Ship, Forest, Dinosaur, Guitar and Banana. Sirens of course held a question in my mind as to which kind of Siren I should draw, and therefor became a double meaning and a gateway to the premise of the image. The sea in all its seemingly infinite glory became the habitat. Very appropriate for me as I am obsessed with the sea and all its mystery. I wanted the process of drawing the waves to feel like that very eternity, and so after drawing each wave I decided to fill each one with three lines of colour. Navy, Light Blue and Turquoise. This helped to drag out the drawing process over a longer period of time, hence testing my patience and providing long bouts of self-therapy. I love the hypnotic healing journey of drawing in such tiny detail over long periods of time. It helps to keep my mind in a constant train of thought, whereas in the real world I find it easy to get lost in my own sea. Please enjoy! X
