Ariosto Dale Bagtas
Painter
Bio
Dale Bagtas, based in Bulacan, Philippines, occupies his rightful place in contemporary art with his dynamic abstraction that eloquently presents the sculptural plasticity of pigment, occasionally caught in a choreographic engagement with found objects. Departing from non-objective art’s emphasis on the flat-ness of canvas, Bagtas relishes in expansion, tactility, and presence, making his paintings as objective revelations of his rich and fecund universe, in which forms and shapes swirl, mutate, and transform. They remind of worlds from the cellular level to the the cosmic scale, but ultimately foregrounding nature’s spectacular flourishing and growth.
Having participated in hundreds of exhibitions in the Philippines, Bagtas has also showcased his works in Europe and Asia, with “Relative & Absolute Truth: Axis of Peace” held during the 8th Geoje International Art Festival at the Haegeumgang Theme Museum in Geoje, South Korea as the most recent. A multi-decorated artist, he has won the Grand Prize distinction to two of the Philippines’ most prestigious art awards: the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence Competition (Acrylic and Oil Category, 2021) and the GSIS Art Competition (Non-Representational Category, 2019).
