Chiara Mazzarino

Painter

Bio

Chiara Mazzarino began her research path by remaking Tamara de Lempicka's beautiful paintings. Fascinated by her work, she began to devote her efforts to artist copying. A copy cannot be purely mechanical, and the artist must feel his subject as the master he studies would have felt it. This is confirmed by the sixth principle of Xie He, which concerns the 'transmission of the spirit of the old masters by means of copying', Mazzarino at the beginning of his practice seems to limit himself to remaking, reproducing in exactly the same way as the Polish author, but in his gesture of admiration there is the passing on of knowledge, knowledge that becomes unconscious through doing. Mimesis means imitation. This term - also used by great philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle - is used when referring to reality and nature, defining them as copies of something else, something distant and intangible. The history of art is a constant progression towards visual truth, reproducing is the end result of a long journey that passes through the stages of outline and correction, it is the construction of a relational model that allows one to relate to the other in order to relate to oneself.

"I was born in Genoa in 1989 and the passion for art has accompanied me since I was a child. I had the opportunity to learn more about painting immediately after graduating from artistic high school, when I saw for the first time a copy of the Work “La bella Rafaëla”, by the painter “Tamara De Lempicka” and I go enchanted. Initially, this led me to focus on the reproduction of the Author’s paintings, trying to represent as faithfully as possible what I had learnt by observing the great works. In this way, I began to know and use colors, by deepening the noble technique of oil painting. In 2011 I had the pleasure of dedicating a solo exhibition to the Polish-born painter, and then subsequently, I participated in some group exhibitions. It was only 2019, during the pandemic, that the need of escaping fro the rigidity of reproductions arose in me and I tried to engage in something more spontaneous and instinctive. Art finally became an important tool for expressing, metabolising and concretising my emotions, so that each panting could become a small part of my life path. What drives me to express myself through painting is that feeling of well-being and liberation that is generated when, pervaded by a certain type of emotion, positive or negative, I find myself distributing the color on the canvas. I let the instinct guide me, without paying too much attention to reason and each brushstroke may generate in me a feeling of peace."

“Prepare a canvas, grab some colors and create. Transform your feelings into art, curiosity, pursuit…into emotion”.
